The BabelBark app runs on Apple (iOS 8.0 or higher) and Android (4.4 or higher) devices.

We designed BabelBark as a “multi-tool” capable of supporting any combination of people and pets. BabelBark also supports cats!

You can connect with your veterinarian and favorite businesses to create an extended virtual family dedicated to caring of your pet. Whether you use all the features or just a few, BabelBark is designed to adapt to you.

If your veterinarian has BabelVet, all of your pet’s veterinary records will be updated and maintained automatically on your mobile device through BabelBark. You can request and save copies of your pet’s medical records in the app. Your pet’s activity history, dietary details, weight changes, and medication updates can be shared between visits directly with your veterinarian to keep your pet on track. Even if your veterinarian doesn’t have BabelVet, you can still request, manage, and share medical records through BabelBark via the email associated with your profile.

BizBark is our software platform for pet stores, groomers, daycares, boarders, trainers, walkers and shelters—anyone who offers pet services. It connects to our BabelVet software for veterinary clinics. The BabelBark app integrates with BizBark and BabelVet so you can schedule appointments, receive promotions, and automatically share vaccination records and contact information. Tell your favorite pet business about BizBark and your favorite veterinary clinic about BabelVet so they can work with you to schedule appointments and send you promotions. Even if your favorite pet business doesn’t have BizBark or BabelVet, you can still request appointments and share health updates with them via the email associated with your profile.

No, but health monitoring is one of the benefits provided thru the BabelBark app. When your pet is wearing it, it continually syncs with the app to update it, so you don’t have to.

You can purchase the health monitor right on the site. When you receive it, follow the easy set up instructions and you’ll be tracking your pet’s activity 24/7…even while you’re away.

There is also a GPS function within the BabelBark app on your phone for your walks. Just open the app and click Start when you begin. Don’t forget to click Stop when complete.

If you are having difficulties connecting with the health monitor please try the following steps:

  • Make sure the battery is charged by pressing the center of the health monitor and verify the LED lights display around the edge. If the lights do not display, replace the battery. Click here to see how. We highly recommend that your phone and the battery level of the health monitor is higher than 30% during the syncing process.
  • Turn the Bluetooth on your phone off and then back on.
  • Un-pair the device from the phone’s Bluetooth connection.
  • Make sure the fitness monitor is not close to any phone that is was connected to previously.
  • Close the BabelBark app and reopen.
  • Restart the phone.

The health monitor uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology which emits a fraction of the radiation humans receive thru mobile phones. Monitors are also FCC compliant and within the specifications followed by any other products considered to be safe.

The health monitor uses a 2032 “watch” battery which contains lithium. If your pet ingests the monitor with battery, it must be treated by a veterinarian immediately.

The battery lasts up to 6 months and is available at most grocery/convenience stores for about $2. It’s easy to replace.

Just remove the health monitor from the collar, take the back cover off, and replace the battery. Make sure the cover is secure after you replace the battery to ensure it stays waterproof.

The battery shipped with the device is not rechargeable.

BabelBark utilizes an intelligent, point-based system to combine: (1) time and (2) intensity into a single metric. So, points can distinguish between 10 minutes of walking (50 points), 10 minutes of jogging (100 points), and 10 minutes of running (150 points).

This results in a better metric relative to steps, active time, and distance….which can vary greatly with the assorted sizes and shapes of dogs. The point system adjusts to be relevant for all sizes of dogs. For example, the number of steps a Great Dane and Chihuahua take to walk the same distance are very different. Similarly, the activity intensity of a Labrador Retriever and English Bulldog during a 5-minute play session is very different. The variety makes a point-based system highly relevant to your dog.

The BabelBark mobile app captures activity, measured in points, from the fitness monitor built into the app. These points are used to create goals, compare time periods, and compare similar dogs. We have an Activity Calculator built into the app that shows the average number of daily points based on age and weight. We continually update comparative benchmarks (including breed and medical conditions) as we continue to collect baseline data over time.
